Blogging has revolutionized the way African food is viewed globally by opening people’s eyes to different recipes from all over the continent. While some have mocked African cuisine and delegated it as an ‘other’, African cuisine has also been recognized for its diversity and recently discovered healthiness in comparison to other diets. Social media and blogging have taken this new respect for African cuisine to another level. Beyond recipes, these are a few African female bloggers who are stamping African culinary culture on the world map:
- Oumou Bah- @kadiafricanrecipes
Born in Guniea, this 24-year old is the founder of Kadi African Recipes and the French site, Recettesafricaine.com. Oumou began experimenting with cooking from an early age with her mom and has tried several recipes. Her blog and Instagram page feature West African recipes where she shares her knowledge with thousands of viewers and followers around the world.

- Sanjana Modha – @korasai
Sanjana, a British born, Indian/East African is a food photographer, a vegetarian and a featured celebrity chef at Food Network. Her blog- KO Rasai chronicles Indian and East African recipes and colorful food pictures.

- Atim Ukoh – @afrolems
With a unique style, Atim, a full time Nigerian chef who runs a restaurant in Canada, educates the world about Nigerian food. With about 11,000 Instagram followers, Atim is definitely making her mark in the food blogosphere.

- Thuli Gogela- @mzansicuisine
With a diploma in Consumer Science, Food and Nutrition, Gogela discovered food blogging as a platform to launch her passion for food in 2010. Since then her site mzansistylecuisine.com has become a respected online ingenious food destination. She also runs a food column in the Cape Times newspaper.

- Miriam Rose Kinunda- @tasteoftanzania
This 45 year old Tanzanian woman who started blogging in 2004 teaches her viewers through YouTube videos how to make healthy and delicious Tanzanian meals. She infuses a blend of local and western spices to present local dishes with western appeal.

- Cordialis Chipo- @africadietician
This dietician has always been a lover of food and health, but her passion for educating Africans about the importance of healthy eating came after she lost her mom. Since then Chipo’s goal is to ‘improve health’ in Africa, with her blog- The African Pot of Nutrition.

- Freda Muyambo – @myburntorange
An African cuisine expert writer at About.com, this Ghanaian born electrical engineer was raised in Botswana and brings her love for food and cooking to a global audience through her blog. With features in publications such as the African Economist and the Guardian, Freda is challenging the myth that African food is unhealthy.

- Nma Okpara- @nigerianlazychef
As a young girl, Nma disliked cooking, but gradually she fell in love with the art of creating simple meals to entertain others and herself. The need to celebrate Nigerian meals and teach others a simpler method of preparing them inspired the Nigerianlazychef.com. She also has plans to showcase Africa’s exotic cuisines through her “Dine Africa” project.
